If we take into account that the specially shaped vehicle is designed to carry two passengers and can stay in the air without recharging for more than 40 minutes, the flight distance achieved during the tests can be considered acceptable. There is no steering wheel, rudder or pedals inside the hybrid electric plane and electric car. To eliminate the requirement for customers to obtain a pilot’s license, Chery is focusing primarily on driverless vehicles.
Three parts stand out in the design of the prototype: the superstructure of the aircraft, the capsule that accommodates two passengers, and the base used to move on the roads. Such a prototype can only take off and land vertically, so it is not equipped with wheeled landing gear. The base, whose shape is close to a regular car, is needed only for traveling on roads. The aircraft can climb to an altitude of just over 1000 meters and its flight speed reaches 120 km/h.
Meanwhile, as CarNewsChina announced, rival company Geely also conducted tests of its electric traction aircraft in June this year. Take-off weight reached 2500 kg, cruise speed 248 km/h and maximum speed 320 km/h. The prototype was controlled by a pilot and allowed six people to be transported by air. The Geely subsidiary is developing such a plane.
