Amazon has refreshed the basic Fire TV Stick HD, added a remote control and lowered its price compared to the previous model.

Amazon’s Fire TVs are devices that – like Google’s Chromecast, which are their biggest rivals – allow televisions without Smart TV capabilities to be upgraded to the “smart” category. Or improve the performance of any screen with access to all types of streaming services and running thousands of apps or games.

The new Fire TV Stick HD

“A newer model of this product is available”says Amazon when you link to the e-commerce giant’s streamer. A little more “branded” as its specs seem to be almost the same as the old device and the Stick Lite, which packs a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.

The new Fire TV Stick HD can stream Full HD resolution and has support for high dynamic range HDR. The biggest novelty is the remote control, with which you can control the TV, soundbar or other peripherals, which the previous ones could not do.

Fire TV Stick HD

Unlike the more expensive Fire TV 4K models, the Fire TV Stick HD does not support Wi-Fi 6, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision HDR. It supports Wi-Fi 5, a range of HDR standards including HLG, HDR10/10 Plus and of course s Alexa, for which it has a dedicated button which can be used to search for programs and launch applications using voice commands. It also includes other dedicated buttons for other streaming services such as Netflix and Prime Video.

The new Fire TV Stick HD is available on Amazon’s US portal for 35 dollarsfive dollars less than what the previous model cost at launch. We assume that it will eventually reach the rest of the regions. In Spain, the closest thing is the aforementioned Fire TV Stick Lite, but it doesn’t have TV controls.
