The Chinese State Shipbuilding Corporation launched the Fujian aircraft carrier with a launch catapult to launch the aircraft. China Central Television reported that the ship is the first Chinese aircraft carrier to be designed and built from scratch.
The landing and naming ceremony took place on June 17 at Jiannan Shipyard in Shanghai. The ship was named after the province of the same name.
It was noted that Fujian received an electromagnetic catapult developed for launching aircraft in China. It is known that catapults were used on American aircraft carriers such as Gerald R. Ford.
The tonnage of the aircraft carrier “Fujian” is more than 80 thousand tons. The wing of the ship can accommodate J-35 fighters and KJ-600 long-range radar detection deck aircraft. J-15T fighters and J-15D electronic warfare aircraft will also be able to take off from the ship’s deck.
