The Ministry of Digital Transformation team at the UN headquarters called on world leaders to support Ukraine’s telecommunications sector.
According to Ukrinform, the Ministry of Digital Transformation announced it on Facebook.
“Despite the constant bombardment of Russia, the telecom team continues to rebuild what was destroyed, establish Starlink and restore communications. But this is not enough. That’s why we constantly need the help of allied countries. Ukraine’s support in the telecom field and the world’s “We hope for a joint struggle against its greatest enemy,” he said.
The Ministry of Finance noted that before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, Ukraine managed to become the country with the highest speed Internet coverage in Europe.
More than 1,800 social facilities were connected to the Internet in Ukraine last year. For the first time, more than a million Ukrainians in 700 villages were able to use high-speed internet.
Every day since February 24, Russia has been trying to separate Ukrainians from their families and from the world, depriving them of communication and digital opportunities. The Ministry of Finance said that about 22% of Internet networks in Ukraine were damaged, and thousands of Ukrainians lost contact with their loved ones.
“Today, the Internet helps to save millions of lives, communicate with relatives, learn about the danger of missiles in time, find and deliver humanitarian aid, work remotely even from villages and bomb shelters, and receive online help from the state. The main thing is that access to the Internet is unhindered, ”said the Ministry of Finance.
As Ukrinform reported, as of June 10, more than 3,000 mobile operator base stations in Ukraine have been completely or partially shut down. More than 20% of telecommunications infrastructure was damaged or destroyed as a result of Russian aggression.
