New Outlook for Windows gets support for personal accounts, not from Microsoft

Microsoft recently added a number of new features to the new Outlook for Windows to make it more useful offline without an Internet connection. After confirming that the app could work offline, he announced that email syncing had been made much better.

Offline mode improvements aren’t the only thing the new Outlook brings. Microsoft clearly understands that users are probably not as happy with its shiny new program as they are with classic Outlook.

So the company is making another big change in New Outlook. Support for non-Microsoft personal accounts will be available soon. This will allow users to access any Microsoft 365 (Office 365) and Copilot Pro subscriptions they have associated with their personal emails in New Outlook for Windows.

Microsoft said the rollout of the feature will begin next month in mid-November, while general availability is expected to occur in mid-December 2024 and mid-January 2025, respectively.

In a Microsoft 365 Message Center post, the company announced the upcoming changes. This explains:

Soon : Support for users to add a new personal Microsoft account type to the new Microsoft Outlook for Windows.

Adding a personal Microsoft account to Outlook is useful if that personal Microsoft account is associated with Microsoft subscriptions such as Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Copilot Pro. For example, a user can purchase a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription using a Microsoft account such as siz@gmail.com.

Prior to this deployment, the new Outlook for Windows did not support adding this personal Microsoft account to Outlook and the user could not access any subscriptions associated with these accounts. After this deployment, users will be able to benefit from a personal Microsoft 365 or Copilot Pro subscription in Outlook.ary 2025. This feature is enabled by default.

A new “Additional Microsoft accounts” option has been added to the “Your Accounts” section of the new Outlook app when setting up your account.

In the new Outlook

The “Your accounts” section mainly helps you manage the various email accounts added to the app:

Before this deployment : Outlook, Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo etc. Supports connecting to personal email accounts such as; so users can access emails from these accounts in Outlook.

After this deployment users can add a new personal Microsoft account that does not use a Microsoft email address (such as outlook.com, hotmail.com, or live.com) by selecting the following option: Settings > Accounts > Your accounts > Additional Microsoft accounts. to access all subscriptions associated with that personal Microsoft account.
