SpaceX Dragon leaves ISS, Crew-8 begins descent to Earth

Three NASA astronauts and one Roscosmos cosmonaut embarked on a return journey to Earth by ship SpaceX DragonIt docked with the International Space Station. NASA astronauts Matt Dominick, Mike Barratt and Jeanette Epps, along with cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin, board the SpaceX Dragon Endeavor spacecraft docking with the International Space Station (ISS) on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.


Shortly thereafter, at 3:24 PM ET, the hatch between the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft and the ISS closed in preparation for the return of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-8 mission. At 5:05 PM ET, the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft departed the forward port of the ISS’ Harmony module.

After performing a series of launches to get away from the space station, Dragon will perform several landing maneuvers, drop its barrel, and re-enter Earth’s atmosphere for a landing off the coast of Florida on Friday, October 25, approximately 34 hours later.
