Adobe is making previously paid features of the Fresco sketch application free for everyone.
Adobe is in direct competition with other popular drawing applications such as Procreate and Clip Studio Paint. They achieve this by making the paid features free to all users. Fresco offers a range of tools to get you started with creative work, including sketch and watercolor brushes.
Outsider position
Adobe Fresco is designed for touchscreens and is available on iPad, iPhone and Windows PCs. Paid features were behind a subscription formula. To take advantage of Adobe’s full font library, a wide selection of brushes, and the ability to import custom brushes, you paid $9.99 per year.
As of today, all features are free. The app was released in 2019 but was not adopted by the general public. This was the case with other Adobe apps like Photoshop and Illustrator. It doesn’t help that its biggest competitors are very popular. They’re cheaper, easier to use, and available on iPads from day one. This investment is often cheaper than a full-fledged PC or a professional drawing tablet.
Fresco doesn’t use the AI options yet, but it has some advantages over Procreate. Fresco has a desktop app and supports cloud storage. By making the app free, Adobe hopes to attract new users.
