According to NASA, on October 25, one of the astronauts of the Crew-8 mission was hospitalized after landing the Crew Dragon spacecraft off the coast of Pensacola (Florida).

According to NASA, on October 25, one of the astronauts of the Crew-8 mission was hospitalized after landing the Crew Dragon spacecraft off the coast of Pensacola (Florida). It was stated that the astronaut’s condition is stable and he is under observation at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola as a precaution.

After undergoing routine field medical examinations aboard the SpaceX recovery ship, all four crew members of Crew-8 were taken to the hospital for additional medical examinations. “During routine medical examinations on the rescue ship, an additional assessment of the condition of crew members was requested as a precaution,” NASA said.

The agency did not provide the name of the astronaut who was hospitalized or details of his medical condition, citing medical confidentiality. The other three crew members returned to Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Crew-8 brought back NASA astronauts Matthew Dominick, Michael Barratt and Janet Epps, along with Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin. All four appeared to be in good shape as they left the Crew Dragon a little more than half an hour after launch, smiling and waving in NASA’s broadcast.

“Right now the crew is doing great. They’ll spend some time on the recovery ship going through medical checks and will return to Houston shortly after that,” Richard Jones, NASA’s deputy commercial crew program manager, said at a press conference 90 minutes after launch.

NASA’s decision to perform all four additional medical examinations at a hospital could rule out an isolated medical problem and increase the likelihood of an incident during or after the return. However, NASA officials said in a briefing that there were no problems during the spacecraft’s return and landing, giving no indication that anything unusual was happening.
