A Colombian soldier died this Sunday after he was shot by a National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla sniper, the army said.
The attack took place in rural Tierra del Fuego, in the municipality of Morales, in the department of Bolivar (Caribbean Sea), while a military patrol was conducting operations to protect the population.

“Despite the efforts of a combat nurse to save his life, our soldier, unfortunately, died due to the severity of his wound,” the army noted.
The Army has created a “multidisciplinary team that is currently providing comprehensive support to the family” of the soldier to whom they offered their condolences.
On August 3, the truce that the government negotiated with the ELN ended without an agreement to extend it, and since then the guerrillas have carried out several attacks on the armed forces.
The most serious of these was an attack on September 17 on a military base in Puerto Jordan, in Arauca department, in which explosive devices were thrown, killing three soldiers and injuring about thirty. EFE
