It’s a shame, Windows 11 24H2 was shaping up to be a very promising update due to the performance improvements and new features it promised, but it has so many problems that it ended up being one of the worst updates ever which Microsoft has launched so far. I say this now because with the history the company has, there is always the possibility of worse to come.
If you are thinking of upgrading to Windows 11 24H2, I advise you not to. Some of the issues I had initially have been resolved, but there is still a lot of work to do. The bugs in this update are reaching such a critical point that the new Intel Arrow Lake-S processors and Z890 motherboards were not spared either.
Early tests confirm that this update causes problems with the Z890 motherboards they eventually generate blue screen of death. It seems that the key is an incompatibility between the integrated GPU that the Intel Core Ultra 200K comes with and Windows 11 24H2, and that the only way to fix it now is turning off said GPU.
We can do this by entering the BIOS of our PC and going to “Advanced Options > Integrated Graphics”. This will free us from those blue screensand it won’t be a problem if we use a dedicated graphics card, which will be the most normal considering that these are high-performance processors focused primarily on games and demanding applications.
Some motherboard manufacturers like ASUS have already released a bios update which automatically resolves these issues, so downloading and installing it is another option. Remember that you should only download the BIOS from the motherboard manufacturer’s official website and never from third-party websites.
I have already mentioned some of them in previous articles, and the truth is that the list is quite long, so in the end Microsoft has no choice but to block deployment of this update on certain computers that were configured with SSDs from specific manufacturers and experienced severe crashes that also resulted in blue screens of death.
Adding to all that we already know and the problems with the Intel Z890 platform are further setbacks that affect internet connection both via Wi-Fi and Ethernet cable. These cause connection drops that cause them to stop working and the first attempts to resolve this by restoring the default configuration and reinstalling the firmware had no effect.
These errors seem to be fixable setting a static IP addresswhich means that the problem may be related to the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) service in Windows 11. There have also been cases where the network adapter is automatically disabled and remains in that situation even when we try to enable it.
Affected users share possible solutions that require intervention in the system registry. These types of actions always involve some risk, so I think it’s best for the average user directly uninstall this update and continue using Windows 23H2. This version is exactly the one I used in my Intel Core Ultra 9 285K and Intel Core Ultra 5 245K analysis.
