Enemy Yamandu Orsi (Frente Amplio) and official party Alvaro Delgado (National Party) were the two most voted candidates Uruguay V elections this Sunday and will compete for the presidency in second round it will happen November 24.

Since 99.92% of the votes have already been counted Electoral Court (CE) of the South American country, the first one received 1,057,515 of the 2,441,238 votes cast, although there are still 34,564 observed votes (cast by those voting in a constituency other than the one they are assigned to) that will open in coming days.

For his part, Delgado achieved the support of 644,147 people on a day when citizens also had to express their opinions in two plebiscites that sought to reform the welfare regime and authorize night raids, but did not receive the necessary number of votes to do so.

In the absence of an observed vote count, Orsi wins 43.94% of the votes cast. Meanwhile, the ruling party candidate gains 26.77%.

However, before the second round, like Luis Lacalle Pou five years ago, Delgado will bet on a coalition government, together with the three political forces that already accompany the current one, and with the one that was created for these elections and which has already given him its support.

Within their framework Colorado Party received 385,685 votes (16.03%), the Cabildo Aberto – 59,000 (2.45%), the Independent Party – 41,206 (1.71%) and the new Ecological Constitutional Party 11,691 (0.49%).

According to this, the political forces of the coalition currently have 1,141,729 votes and are ahead of the Amplio Front by 84,214.

Meanwhile the party Sovereign identity was one of the big surprises this Sunday, with 64,735 votes (2.69%) and the fourth highest number of votes in the presidential and parliamentary elections. This figure would allow her to have two representatives in the Chamber of Deputies.

Other election day data shows that 64,807 people (2.69%) voted blank. Of these, 33,682 did not vote for any party, but were in favor of one or both plebiscites.

Likewise, 57,791 citizens (2.4%) chose to cancel their vote on a day when it was compulsory and when participation was close to 90%.

As for the two plebiscites for which voters had to express their opinions, both of them fell far short of the 50% vote required to be effective.

The PIT-CNT trade union center’s proposal to reform the social security regime received 934,115 votes (38.81%), while government coalition legislators’ proposal to allow night raids received 947,042 (39.35%).
