I’ll start this message off by saying that I’m a Disney+ subscriber. since the streaming service premiered here. There was no shortage of reasons for this, with a catalog that features everything from a huge amount of content from the Star Wars universe to generally notable Pixar creations. And as a guilty pleasure, another reason I hired this service was so I could enjoy National Geographic’s “Mayday, Airline Disasters” documentary series on demand. Yes, we all have our guilty pleasures.
The fact is that today, I have practically decided that this will be the last year of the subscription to the service (yes, whenever I can, I can opt for an annual subscription). And the truth is, I’m kind of sad because I still find his content offering the most interesting, and I can see that the pace of renewal and updating of his catalog is completely defensible. I have no problems with the catalog (although I have some cancellations, like The Acolyte).
My problem with Disney+ is that, as I say, I’ve been a subscriber since day one of the service in Spain, and by that I mean I’ve seen the evolution of its price, the growth that translates into five years, when I’d pay the annual renewal fee, I would have to pay double (plus one euro cent) what I paid in 2020. My first payment was 69.99 euros for one year, while the amount I would have to pay next year would be 139.99 euros. Its price has doubled in five years. An outrage no matter how you look at it.
I’m talking about Disney+ today because it’s a reflection that’s been on my mind for a few days, but I am far from saying that this is the only case.. Disney’s price hike announcement actually comes just one day after Netflix announced another price hike last week. And if I’m focusing today on talking about my plans not to renew my Disney+ subscription, I’m doing so as an extension of what I already said at the time I decided to opt out of Netflix.
Platforms for streaming movies and series have been around in recent years a perfect example of completely disastrous managementand, which was translated into… I say that it is unpleasant, not to use another, much more emphatic word, to its users, to those people who at that time saw in these services a very convenient proposition for you to legally and comfortably watch movies and series.
For quite some time now there is talk of a download revival peer to peer movies and serieswhich doesn’t happen with music, and we’ve also seen some price increases for streaming music services. The huge variance in content, prices that are skyrocketing, and features that are being subtracted from normal accounts that should be reserved exclusively for premium accounts have made us re-patching users tired.
