Microsoft’s Teams communication app is getting a thread function. This allows you to reply to someone else’s chat message in a separate chat message thread instead of in the original channel. This gives you a clear view of chat messages and a clear separation between questions, answers and topics.
The chat and channel experience has also been redesigned, reports The Verge. Chats, teams and channels now appear in one place. Then it will be easier to organize and sort your conversations as you will no longer have to switch between different sections to view messages from groups or channels. You can still group the chats and channels in one section or keep them separate.
There will also be a favorites section where you can find pinned chats and channels. There are also buttons for previewing messages, listing all channels, and viewing timestamps. With this update, conversations will be flagged when you are mentioned anywhere, both in private messages and regular conversations.
This updated UI will be rolling out in preview for desktop and mobile devices next month. The update is expected to be publicly available around mid-2025.
