For many Apple enthusiasts in Europe, things weren’t looking so rosy. Apple would initially only release the AI ​​suite in Europe for macOS users. Now, at the start of iOS18.1, the company announced that Apple Intelligence is coming to Europe.

Apple announced this in an announcement. “Mac users in the EU can use Apple Intelligence in US English with macOS Sequoia 15.1.” Apple Intelligence features will roll out to iPhone and iPad users in the EU in April. This includes many of Apple Intelligence’s core features, including writing tools, Genmoji, a redesigned Siri with better language understanding, ChatGPT integration and more.”

The reason Apple initially didn’t want to bring its AI suite to Europe has everything to do with the Digital Markets Act. Apple has been appointed a gatekeeper and therefore has to comply with stricter rules. One of those rules states that Apple must open its platforms to outside organizations, and the company initially didn’t want that for Apple Intelligence. It is not clear what was decisive.

Apple is still unclear why this is suddenly possible.
