Hezbollah Shura Council, the Lebanese Shiite group’s highest governing body, announced the appointment of the organization’s second number, Naim Qassem, the new secretary general replacing Hassan Nasrallah, killed in an Israeli explosion on September 27.

In a statement from Hezbollah’s leadership, the group said that “in accordance with the approved mechanism for the election of the Secretary General, the Hezbollah Shura Council has agreed to elect His Eminence Sheikh Naim Qassem as Secretary General of Hezbollah.” carrying the blessed banner on this journey, asking Almighty God to guide him in this noble mission at the head of Hezbollah and its Islamic resistance.”

In the note, the armed formation promised that with the appointment of Qassem “We will work together to achieve the principles of Hezbollah and the goals of their path and keep the flame of resistance shining and its banner high until victory is achieved.”

A little over a month after the assassination of Nasrallah, the group decided to elect a man who was number two in the group and who was the person in charge will give three televised speeches proposed after the death of the previous Hezbollah leader, who spent three decades in power.

The decision comes after Hezbollah last week confirmed the death of Hashem Safi ad-Din, headed the executive council of the formation and was considered one of the main candidates to replace cleric Nasrallah.

Qasem, whose whereabouts are unknown, was appointed deputy head of Hezbollah in 1991. when Nasrallah was not yet the leader of the formation.

was considered one of the main representatives of the Shiite group and a figure of the highest level who even gave interviews to foreign media.
