Google is improving Chrome’s performance controls

Google has updated Chrome’s performance controls and improved (again) the browser’s memory saving feature and other related parameters reduce resource consumption and get the best browsing experience.

Chrome leads the world’s web browsing market by a distance from other alternatives. Its base ‘Chromium’ developed by Google itself is the most used in the market; its minimalistic, intuitive and easy-to-use interface; It supports all web standards and has thousands of extensions that enhance or complement it. Its performance is also remarkable… if your computer has a certain level of hardware because Chrome is a huge resource hogespecially RAM.

Google has been trying to improve the way its browser works for years. Or more precisely, looking for better control so that these hardware costs don’t lead to lags, crashes or browser and/or PC restarts. Always within the scope, because we have to remember that part of its design (implementing bookmarks in independent processes) or increasing the goals from a simple browser to a complete application platform, requires relatively few resources for its standard operation. Google releases updates that offer more control over browser performance and speed. And here we have one more.

A key addition to the update is Performance detectionwhich automatically identifies problems in this area and suggests solutions. For example, to speed up tab usage, Chrome may suggest disabling tabs using other resources. A “Performance Issue Warning” notice will appear and all you have to do is click “Fix Now” to improve your browsing experience. If you want manual control, you can disable this option.

There has been and will continue to be a strong focus on Chrome performance management memory storage. Function Memory saver now offers Moderate, Balanced and Maximum modes. Medium mode disables cards according to system needs. Balanced mode takes into account your browsing habits and system needs. And max mode disables cards after you stop using them faster.

In addition to these features, we can further customize a number of performance settings. This includes determine the website so that it remains always activeeven when not in use, which is useful for sites that perform background tasks. You can also enable or disable visual indicators of inactive cards and memory usage.

All of these features are focused on the desktop version of the browser and can be managed in Personalization (three dots) > More Tools > Performance. They are being rolled out gradually and we expect to be finalized for all users in Chrome 131, which we expect next week. If you need it, check out this procedure that will surely help you reduce the resource consumption in Chrome: How much memory does Google Chrome use and how to reduce it?
