Republican candidate in the US presidential election, Donald Trump, won the election in North Carolina, winning 16 key electoral votes.
North Carolina was part of a seven-member group that Trump and his rival, Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris, envisioned as absolutely necessary for victory.
Additionally, Trump currently has a clear advantage in another “hinge state” such as Georgiawhich would give him 16 more electoral votes if the American media finally starts predicting a victory for the former American president.
With 95 percent of the votes now counted, Trump has a three-point lead.
Georgia in particular was a particularly contentious state in the election four years ago because Trump demanded a new recount given the narrow margin of victory for his then-rival Joe Biden.
Harris, for her part, would win the state of Virginia in the final hours, giving her thirteen electoral votes. The Vice President of the United States has so far amassed 153 delegates.
