Apple Atlas is a “secret” initiative of the Cupertino company that he is in charge of collect internal feedback from company employees about smart glasses or glasses that are currently on the market. The goal is nothing more than to launch the “Apple Glass” that we have been talking about for many years.

He tells us from Bloomberg tireless Apple specialist, Mark Gurman. The Apple Product Quality team sent out an email to selected employees inviting them to participate in a study to evaluate current smart glasses or glasses solutions. Gurman explains that whenever Apple tries to enter a new market, it’s a tradition create discussion groups for the given segment and try to understand what is liked and what is not among the offers in the market. The Cupertino company has thousands of employees and many of them have a profile to buy smart glasses.

Although Apple boasts perhaps the most advanced model on the market (Vision Pro), testers at the time praised its quality and capacity for certain tasks, but also criticized parts such as the weight, the visual fatigue they produce or the limited battery capacity. Interest in the headset has noticeably waned, with sales reaching only half of Apple’s forecasts. Besides, its very high price which can reach $5,000, puts it outside of what the Cupertino firm seems to be looking for now: a version that most consumers can afford.

Apple doesn’t like to rush new products to market. If it opens up markets like it did with the iPhone or iPad, so much the better, but if not, it will allow enough development time before launch to “sell” itself as the best on the market. Therefore, it will be a while before we see “Apple Glass” (or whatever they ended up calling it) in stores.

Apple Atlas = cheap Vision Pro?

a few months ago TheInformation cited an Asian component supplier that makes key components of the headset to ensure that the Cupertino firm cancels the second generation Vision Pro in favor of developing a cheaper variant that would follow the path opened by the Meta Quest 3 This model is – without any doubt – the best 3D viewer in terms of function/price ratioa good mirror to look into if Apple (really) wants to get a mass-consumption version.

Not only is the Meta development much cheaper than the Vision Pro, it is also lighter and more comfortable to use, has a wider field of view, and surpasses Apple in the number of applications and access to games such as those on the Microsoft Xbox. It will surely be the model most commented on by employees in the internal debate that opens the Apple Atlas initiative.
