Schneider Electric has fallen victim to a ransomware gang. As usual, he demands a ransom, although, somewhat unusually, it has to be paid in the form of baguettes.

Criminals stole 40GB of data from Schneider Electric. The company confirms that it is currently investigating an incident in which unauthorized persons gained access to a project management platform. Schneider says that the platform in question runs in an isolated environment.

The company’s incident team is currently working on the matter, it appears necessary. Schneider Electric’s products and services would be fully compensated.

Jira

The Hellcat ransomware gang has reportedly gained access to Schneider Electric’s Atlassian Jira environment. The criminals themselves describe their loot as 40 GB of data from users, projects, problems and plug-ins, among other things. Hellcat expressly refers to sensitive customer data.

The criminals threaten to make the data public. They go directly to the brand new CEO Olivier Blum, who has been at the helm of the company since Monday and probably imagined his first week to be different.

Baguettes

Schneider Electric is given the option to buy the data leaks. Hellcat also promises to delete the stolen data after paying the ransom. This approach is being used more and more frequently by criminal gangs. There is no guarantee that thieves will keep their word, but criminals often seem to keep their word enough to make the financial model work for them.

Hellcat is demanding a $125,000 ransom and somewhat conspicuously states that payment in baguettes would be preferred. It is unclear whether traditional crypto coins are also an option. There’s a chance that Hellcat is simply having fun making fun of French manufacturer Schneider Electric and still plans to leak customer data.
