ADATA Legend 860 is a new SSD from the Taiwanese manufacturer. PCIe Gen4 version medium performance and for heavy consumptionwhich should reach the market at a fairly attractive price.
Although the latest processor platforms from Intel and AMD have opened the door to a new generation of SSDs with PCIe 5.0 support, and this week we saw the launch of the impressive Corsair MP700 ELITE, most manufacturers continue to feed the offerings of the former generation. And it’s logical. Gen5 doesn’t translate its enormous theoretical increase in performance to real life, and on the other hand, there are still tens of millions of older motherboards that don’t support them and need to use versions from previous generations.
The new SSD from ADATA is designed for high consumption and its low profile makes it possible Use it equally on desktops and laptops. Or also increase the capacity of video game consoles like PS5. The company accompanies it with a very thin aluminum shell to improve heat dissipation and thus manage operating temperatures, which are by no means as high as the Gen5.
It uses the standard M.2 2280 format, connects to the PCIe 4×4 interface as we said and supports the NVMe 1.4 protocol like any modern SSD. Its performance level is in line with the Gen4 average, with sequential read/write data transfer up to above 6,000 / 5,000 Mbytes per second.
The unit uses 3D NAND flash memory and includes an SLC cache algorithm along with HMB (Host Memory Buffer) technology and an LDPC (Low-Density Parity Check) error correction mechanism. Although not mentioned, we assume it will also include support for AES 256-bit encryption technology. The free SSD Toolbox application is available for drive control and information software as well as for firmware updates.
ADATA Legend 860 is distributed in three versions depending on storage capacity: 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB. All have a five-year warranty and withstand up to 640 TBW in the upper unit. No price was provided, but they should be quite attractive and cheaper than the top-of-the-line Legend 960.
