Minisforum V3 SE, the first 3in1 with AMD will be even cheaper

The Minisforum V3 SE is a variant of the computer that it boasted when it was launched “the industry’s first 3-in-1 device with an AMD chip”. Like other “SE” or “Mini” rated devices, the new version downgrades some features to lower the selling price.

Minisforum V3 SE retains the shape and design of the original model with versatility as one of its strengths, as it can be used as an electronic tablet, as a notebook or as a monitor to connect mobile phones, consoles or other devices thanks to the USB Type-C port that functions as a Display Port-In input with VLink support. Similar solutions certainly sound familiar to you, such as ROG Flow from ASUS or Surface Pro from Microsoft. But everything used Intel processors until now.

Minisforum V3 SE, lower level, lower price

This series uses AMD APUs as a novelty and specifically in the new Ryzen 7 7735U model, which replaces the original Ryzen 7 8840U. It’s basically a rebadged, slightly faster version of the Ryzen 6800U, with Zen 3+ CPU cores instead of Zen 4 and RDNA 2 graphics instead of RDNA 3. The chip also lacks an NPU, although we don’t really believe it’s necessary in this type of equipment.

The screen size remains at 14 inchesbut the panel level has been downgraded, from 2K to FHD for 1920 x 1200 pixels and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The refresh rate is also lower (60 Hz) and so is its brightness (320 nits). It has support for pressure-sensitive styluses (4096 levels and MPP 2.0 protocol) and a removable backlit keyboard to facilitate desktop use.

Its connectivity is still excellentwith Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 on the front, microSD card support and the debut of two USB4 ports plus the aforementioned VLink for use as a portable monitor. It includes four speakers for the audio section and also has a rear camera (5 MP with auto focus) and a 2 MP front camera with IR and Windows Hello compatibility for security tasks.

It also has a fingerprint sensor on the power button and integrates a 50.82 Wh battery with a 65-watt external power source for charging. Its weight is below the kilogram barrier (940 grams).

The Minisforum V3 SE will debut in China with a sub-$600 price tag. More interesting are the sets with a keyboard (4499 CNY – 630 dollars) and more complete with a tablet, keyboard and stylus for 4699 CNY (about 655 dollars). They are much cheaper than the original modelwhich is sold in the tablet+keyboard version in Spain for 1,095 euros.
