Cisco is closing the doors of its European customer service center, the Technical Assistance Center (TAC). As a result, 124 of the 432 Belgian workers will lose their jobs. According to DataNews, the company announced this internally on Thursday morning. This isn’t the first time Cisco has conducted a round of layoffs.
Second round of layoffs
This is the second round of layoffs at Cisco this year. In February, Cisco laid off around four thousand people, of which 25 Belgian employees had to leave the company. According to digital expert Luc Blyaert, this now affects 124 Belgian employees.
In a statement to DataNews, Cisco was unable to provide further details about the TAC closure. However, the company stressed that it is keeping an eye on its growth, service implementation and cost structure. In addition, Cisco referred to the restructuring announced in August.
“In Belgium we have declared our intention to reduce staff numbers and we have informed the relevant authorities as part of the information and consultation process. This will enable us to increase the efficiency of our business, optimize our customer service and customer experience and invest in strategic growth opportunities. “Caring for our employees is our top priority and we will fully support our employees throughout this process,” a company spokesperson said.
