The strangest WhatsApp bug turns the screen green, making it unusable, but there is a solution to this too

You open WhatsApp to chat with a friend and find this instead: a green screen. To make matters worse, WhatsApp closes immediately when you open it. These two problems have been tormenting some users of the popular messaging app for several days.

Users affected by these errors expressed their sadness about reddit and X because they could not use the application because the screen containing the chat could not be opened. The good news is There are several possible solutions to this error.

WhatsApp turns green

In the history of WhatsApp, the app has had a fair share of bugs, especially in beta, but few have been as buggy as the last one. This error shows green screen When we open a chat we make it impossible to use the app.

The error seems to be related to: WhatsApp beta update 2.24.24.5Although some users claim that this also happened to them in a previous version. Interestingly, those with Meta AI active on their accounts can continue to use it as it is the only chat that does not appear in green.

And this error does not come alone, because other users complain instead WhatsApp closes immediately when you open itIt makes it completely impossible to use the app. Fortunately, neither the green screen nor the sudden shutdown affects all users, but judging by the number of mentions of it on the networks, it becomes clear that the error is more than anecdotal.

The good news is There are four possible solutions It will almost certainly fix these and other problems with WhatsApp. These are:

  • Update the application. This is the safest option as you won’t lose your data or chats and also the Play Store is normally responsible for automatically updating apps when you leave your phone charging and connected to a WiFi network.
  • Roll back to a previous version. If the above doesn’t work, you can try installing a previous version, which involves uninstalling WhatsApp, downloading the APK (or App Bundle) of a previous version, and installing on top of it. Unless you check the “Keep data” option when uninstalling WhatsApp, you will usually lose your chats when doing so. It is recommended that you first backup your chats, just in case.
  • Clear cache and force quit. Finally, it never hurts to try clearing WhatsApp cache and force closing it, as it’s something harmless that can fix similar problems.
  • Exit the beta version. If you are tired of the problems of beta versions, you can go to the WhatsApp page on Google Play and press the button. Go out inside You are a beta tester. Please note that beta programs have limited capacity and if you lose your place you may not be able to get it back in the future.

And if all the above fails, always Chat with WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop until the problem is resolved. This isn’t optimal, but the bug only affects WhatsApp for Android, so you should be able to continue chatting with your account from other platforms without any problems.
