In addition, they will be able to contact various brands and consult on procedures related to, among other things, licenses and insurance.
Based on the above, learn five important tips that will help you take care of your car and extend its life.
1. Perform maintenance
The frequency of preventive maintenance varies depending on the type of vehicle, its use and environmental conditions and is based primarily on the manufacturer’s recommendations. Therefore, periodic maintenance is recommended to extend service life, minimize unexpected damage, optimize performance and improve safety.
Every vehicle and its components have specific maintenance needs. For example, cars usually require inspection every 5,000 or 10,000 kilometers, and air conditioning systems are checked every six months. This will depend on each model and its respective manufacturer.
2. Check the oil
The ideal frequency for checking and changing your vehicle’s oil depends on the type of vehicle, operating conditions, and manufacturer recommendations. It is generally recommended to check the oil level at least once a month and change it every 5,000 to 10,000 kilometers or every 6 to 12 months. However, depending on urban driving conditions, heavy loads or extreme climate conditions, more frequent maintenance may be required.
It is important to pay attention to warning signs such as oil warning light, excessive consumption or loss of power as they may indicate lubrication problems. For proper maintenance, refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual and take it to a reputable workshop. There they will be able to advise you on the most suitable type of lubricant to achieve the best performance for your vehicle; These include mineral, synthetic or semi-synthetic.
3. Check your tires
Regularly checking tire pressure and wear is key to vehicle safety and performance. Therefore, it is recommended to measure your blood pressure monthly, especially before long trips and always during the cold season, in order to obtain accurate readings.
Periodically rotating, aligning and balancing your tires also extends their life, improving traction and reducing fuel consumption. Check the manufacturer’s recommendations, keeping in mind that tires typically have a lifespan of six years and need to be balanced to avoid stressing the suspension. This will depend on the type of tires you use for your vehicle’s mobility.
4. Be careful with the braking system
Brake maintenance is essential for your safety and the safety of your passengers. It is recommended to perform an inspection at every tire pressure check and schedule a professional inspection at least once a year, including the condition of the pads, rotors, brake fluid and hoses.
To extend brake life, use the transmission to slow down rather than over-brake, especially on steep grades. Overuse of the brakes can cause the fluid and pads to overheat, resulting in poor braking performance and, in extreme cases, complete brake failure, increasing the risk of accidents.
Watch for signs of wear, such as a soft pedal, noise, vibration, vehicle skidding, and longer stopping distances. This is necessary for safe driving.
5. Keep your battery in good condition.
To keep your car’s battery in optimal condition, check it regularly for signs of corrosion, swelling, or leaks. It is important not to let it completely discharge and use the car regularly to keep it charged. Also, protect the battery from extreme temperatures and clean the terminals frequently.
Likewise, avoid turning on lights, the radio, or charging your cell phone when the car is turned off, as these activities consume large amounts of energy and can affect battery life.
If you notice white dust around the battery, this may indicate the presence of acid, which may mean the battery needs to be replaced. If you notice difficulty starting, dim lights, or warning messages on your dashboard, this could be a sign that your battery is failing; In this case, it is advisable to contact a mechanic who specializes in electrical parts.
