Google’s Learn About gives you educational answers like you would expect from a textbook.

Google is introducing a new experimental AI tool called Learn About. The tool is based on the LearnLM AI model that the tech giant launched this year. Google Gemini is already an advanced AI chatbot, but the company wants to empower users to learn with Learn About. Artificial intelligence could completely transform the way we learn, the company says.

Different from the rest

Learn About is characterized by presenting answers like in digital textbooks: they are visually appealing, interactive and learning-oriented. This makes the tool not only informative, but also educational.

The differences are clearly visible in a comparison by The Verge between Google Learn About and Google Gemini. To the simple question “How big is the universe?” Both tools give the same answer, but in a different style. Gemini uses an image from Wikipedia and gives two paragraphs different quotes.

Learn About, on the other hand, shows an image from the Physics Forum educational website and adds related information. In addition, the tool also displays separate blocks with explanations of specific words and the meaning of the universe. The sidebar contains related questions and topics. So the focus of this tool is more on enabling users to learn than on providing facts and definitions.

The experimental AI tool is not yet available in our country. It is also not yet known when Learn About will be fully developed and whether it will ever be rolled out in Europe.
