Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court said it heard two explosions at the end of the session on Wednesday near its headquarters and, as a consequence, ministers, officials and employees were evicted from the building in Brasilia due to security reasons.

“At the end of the STF meeting on Wednesday (13), two loud bangs were heard and ministers were escorted out of the building for security reasons,” the court said in a statement. “Staff and employees from the headquarters building have been removed as a precaution.”

According to press reports, the explosions occurred in the Plaza de los Tres Poderes, where the headquarters of the highest court is located. The place is cordoned off.According to the news portal G1Firefighters and military explosives personnel responded to the scene and firefighters reported that the person diedand that the body was left in the Plaza de los Tres Poderes.

Also according to G1, a car exploded in the parking lot located between the high court and Annex IV of the Chamber of Deputies.

A witness to the bombings, reported in the press in Brasilia, said she was at a bus stop in front of the Supreme Court building when a man walked past with a bag in his hand. He then heard explosions, G1 reported.

When Federal District police were contacted, they had no immediate information. The Brasilia Fire Department did not immediately respond to requests for information.
