Good news for developers: ChatGPT now works with other programming apps on Mac computers.
OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT’s desktop application can now work with coding apps such as VS Code, Xcode, TextEdit, Terminal and iTerm2. This means that as a developer you no longer have to put your code into ChatGPT, TechCrunch knows.
Work more efficiently and save more time
Instead of pasting the code itself into ChatGPT, the code you’re working on is automatically sent to the chatbot as context to your text prompt. It is therefore not yet possible for ChatGPT to write code directly in the apps. This is already the case with GitHub Copilot.
The feature is called Work With Apps and, according to OpenAI, is a crucial component in the development of AI agents. The biggest challenge is ensuring that AI agents can understand and interact with your system effectively. Currently, OpenAI only focuses on coding. A major use case of LLMs is AI coding assistants, although they don’t always increase employee productivity. The company wants ChatGPT to work with other types of apps in the future.
The feature is now available for Plus and Teams users and will continue to roll out to Enterprise and Edu in the coming weeks. This feature is only available on MacOS for now, Windows will follow later.
