Technology AMD 3D V-Cache revolutionized the processor market since its debut in 2022, which means a before and after in the performance of cache-sensitive workloads. Its implementation in integrated devices such as the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and more recently the Ryzen 7 9800X3D has proven to be a key differentiator for technical and gaming applications. Since its launch, this technology has redefined user expectations, striking a balance between energy efficiency and raw performance that few competitors have yet managed to match. Now it seems that Intel is ready to go down that road with its own specific approach: integrating 3D stacked cache technology into its next-generation Xeon processors.

Intel has confirmed thisis working on a design that will include 3D stacked memory Xeon Clearwater Forestprocessors aimed at servers and workstations. Integrated directly into the “core tile” of the processor, this technology aims to offer significant improvements in technical workloads such as scientific simulations and data analysis. According to Intel’s plans, this advancement will allow it to directly compete with AMD’s EPYC “Genoa-X” and “Turin-X” processors, which have dominated the segment due to their ability to optimize cache-sensitive tasks.

However, Intel has said it doesn’t plan to introduce the technology in its consumer Core processors until at least 2025.. The decision contrasts with AMD’s strategy of extending its 3D V-Cache technology to consumer processors with remarkable success. AMD’s 3D V-Cache models have dominated the gaming market, and its latest version, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, has strengthened this position with improvements in thermal dissipation, higher frequencies and exceptional performance in demanding applications, making it a big sales success.

AMD’s success not only boosted its sales, but also had an impact on the market share of Intel, which is struggling to maintain its leadership position in the desktop processor segment. According to recent reports, AMD achieved a 28.7% share of this market, a significant increase compared to 23% in the previous quarter, while Intel continues to lose ground. This context underlines the importance of technological innovation and the ability to quickly adapt to market demands.

AMD continues to establish itself as a leader in the consumer market, Intel seems to have prioritized the professional segment with Xeon Clearwater Forest. Although this strategy makes sense from a technical point of view, a delay in implementing similar innovations in its Core processors could have significant consequences for brand perception among gamers and home users.

In this context, a key question arises: Does Intel have the right to leave out the consumer market with this technology? Although its commitment to the professional segment may be strategic, abandoning innovation in Core processors could give AMD even more room in a market where its growth at the expense of Intel is undisputed.
