In the face of rising global tensions due to armed conflict between Russia and UkraineGerardo Rodríguez Sánchez Lara, professor at the Department of International Relations and Political Science at the University of America Puebla (UDLAP), spoke about the use of the term “third world war“diplomats from both countries”nuclear superpowersworld: Russia and the USA.

In an interview for Aristegui LiveRodriguez analyzed recent diplomatic and military movements, highlighting that the two nuclear superpowers have resorted to this concept in their exchanges.

According to Rodriguez, “at least in the diplomatic threats, in the diplomatic language of the conflict, the two nuclear superpowers used the concept of a third world war.”

This statement highlights the level of tension reached in the Ukrainian war, where the intervention and strategic decisions of great powers such as USA and Russia could have global consequences.

In this context, Rodriguez emphasized the importance of international organizations such as the UN, which were created precisely to prevent the outbreak of a conflict of this magnitude.

American missiles carry “dirty bombs”

The scientist also touched upon recent US decisions, including the lifting of the embargo on the use of medium range missileswhich could change the course of the war in Ukraine.

“This announcement that the United States is lifting the embargo on the use of these intermediate-range missiles, even though they are not intercontinental missiles, does represent a significant change in the military support strategy for Ukraine,” Rodriguez explained.

These missiles, although created in the 1980s, have been updated in terms of software and hardware and were previously used in military interventions in Iraq.

These are supersonic missiles that can carry explosive warheads, as well as so-called cluster bombs or “dirty bombs”.

This type of weapon is considered extremely dangerous because not all of its elements explode when launched, and they create the risk of subsequent detonations that harm the civilian population.

Rodriguez also noted that as the United States continues to support Ukraine, other international players, such as Russia, will significantly increase their efforts.

Missiles will be launched at North Korean troops

According to the scientist, Russia has begun to cooperate with North Korea, a country with which it has agreed to send a contingent of at least 10 thousand North Korean soldiers, which could increase tensions in the region.

“Russia is arming these North Korean elements, which are terribly disciplined, and the Kursk area is expected to be invaded by at least 50,000 Russian and North Korean soldiers,” Rodriguez said, warning that the move could spark even more conflict.

Regarding military strategy on the ground, Rodriguez highlighted the possibility that Ukraine would use missiles recently acquired with support from the United States at Russian training camps for North Korean troops to delay its invasion of Ukrainian territory.

“Zelensky said that he would use these missiles not against Russian cities, but against military camps on the border with Russia,” he commented, referring to precautions taken by Ukraine.

Trump and Vance’s rise to power

Rodriguez also thought about the domestic political situation in the United States and its impact on the war in Ukraine. He noted that with a change of government in the coming years, with a possible return Donald Trump and arrival JD Vance As vice president, politics around Ukraine could change significantly.

“Vance, the next vice president of the United States, has openly stated that he is willing to negotiate with Russia, allowing that country to retain captured territories that were voluntarily annexed in exchange for peace,” Rodriguez said, emphasizing the U.S. position on the Ukrainian conflict could take an important turn depending on the political decisions that will be made in the near future.
