Russian President, Vladimir Putin, today approved a nuclear doctrine that allows you to respond with nuclear weapons to conventional attacks which threaten the sovereignty of Russia and Belarus.

The doctrine authorizes a nuclear attack if a conventional attack by the enemy leads to “critical threat to sovereignty and (or) territorial integrity” both countries that are members of the State Union of Russia and Belarus.

The document also will consider the aggression of a country that does not have atomic weapons a “joint attack”, but it has the support of a nuclear power.

The doctrine, published on the legal information portal of the Russian state, expands the category of military alliances against which Russia will use a strategy of nuclear deterrence.

“Aggression of any state that is part of a military coalition (bloc, alliance) against the Russian Federation and (or) its allies The coalition as a whole views this as aggression,” he notes.

These last two points are considered by analysts as a clear warning to the United States and NATO, in case they decide to directly intervene in the conflict in Ukraine.

Russia may resort to nuclear weapons also in the case of a “massive attack” using combat aircraft, cruise missiles, hypersonic weapons, drones and other unmanned devices violating the country’s airspace.

For the first time, the document speaks not only about enemy aviation and hypersonic weapons, but also about drones – weapons of war that have has gained great popularity in recent years.
