A few months ago, MSI gave a preview of what we could expect from its next portable console, the MSI Claw 8 AI+. Now we are getting official information about the remaining features and their launch date, from January 7, 2025 at CES 2025.

“The most advanced 8-inch gaming laptop on the market”as the Taiwanese company defines it, has been listed on the web portal from which its presentation will take place, the Las Vegas fair. This type of official backup is not usually common, but here we have it:

The new version of the MSI console will stand out because it is the first on the market with Core Ultra 200 series processors and the only one – among the big ones – to use an Intel chip. A chip giant that is not well placed in handheld gaming machines, pushed aside by AMD’s semi-custom development, which is the most used in the industry.

Intel assures that the new chip will improve up to 50% GPU performance compared to the discrete performance of the integrated Meteor Lake that the original version had. The console will also increase RAM speed and offer storage configurations up to 1 Tbyte with an M2 SSD. The surname ‘AI+’ will be specified in the 480 TOPs of the neural processing unit of the processors.

The increase in performance of the Intel chip occurs without an increase in power consumption. And it is important, because autonomy, like all laptops, was a reason for improvement. In this regard, MSI included a larger battery (82 Wh) and promises “over 4 hours of gameplay for AAA titles”. Too generic an ad, but progress anyway.

Another new feature that we already knew is also confirmed: an increase in the size of the console screen from 7 to 8 inches. The native resolution will continue to be Full HD and its refresh rate will be 120 Hz. The group of controls will be very similar, although the manufacturer has announced improvements to their performance and response time for a better experience.

We do not know the price of this MSI Claw 8 AI+, promising in terms of the announced improvements and news, since it is one of the few with an Intel processor. It will be unveiled at CES 2025, with no availability date. If you don’t want to wait, say the original model is on sale on Black Friday and you can buy it 499 euros.
