Microsoft will test a new restore feature for administrators starting in 2025 as part of the Windows Insider Program. Quick Machine Recovery allows IT administrators to remotely recover Windows systems after a crash. This feature is part of the Windows Resiliency Initiative, launched in the wake of the global CrowdStrike outage. Quick Machine Recovery will be available to the Windows Insider Program community in early 2025.

“The Quick Machine Recovery feature allows IT administrators to perform targeted Windows Update fixes on PCs even when machines won’t start, without requiring physical access to the PC,” Microsoft said. This means that employees can be freed from far-reaching problems more quickly. Quick Machine Recovery is part of the Windows Resiliency Initiative, which was launched in response to the CrowdStrike crash.

Microsoft is introducing even more new features to help IT administrators. For example, testers will soon be able to try out administrator protection. This allows users without administrative rights to make system changes or install apps. This requires authentication via Windows Hello. A temporary token is then created to complete the task. Once the task is completed, the token will be permanently destroyed.
