According to the announcement, the recommendation reset feature will soon become global. Referring to the Meta message, 24 Channel stated that it will be open to users of all ages, including young accounts.

It works very simply. When you view a feed, Instagram tracks all your actions like following, liking, fast forwarding, watch time, skipping to posts, and more. If you watched a video on a particular topic, that topic interests you, so the algorithm will then throw you more videos of the same type. If you sent someone a post about cooking, for example, you’ll see more of them very quickly. This is how algorithms learn your tastes. You want to see more specific content (e.g. forward, search, track).

But if for some reason the algorithms misunderstood you, you can now ask them to “reset” and start over. All data learned about you will be deleted and the neural network will start from scratch to discover your tastes and preferences.

Suggestions can be removed “with just a few taps,” according to the company. Users will also be able to see which accounts they’re subscribed to, decide whether they want to delete those accounts, and help shape new recommendations that appear next.

The final launch date for everyone is still unknown.
