Microsoft has announced that the controversial Windows Recall feature will be disabled by default on business PCs.

PCWorld understands that Microsoft will disable Windows Recall by default on business PCs. The feature regularly takes screenshots of what you do on your PC. For this reason, it was met with great resistance when it was announced; Security experts and regular Windows users alike weren’t thrilled with the fact that Microsoft tracks every usage through screenshots.

Activation is not that easy

Although Microsoft decided to recall the feature in June, the recall now appears to be happening. If you want to use Windows Recall on your business PC, not only does it need to meet the Copilot+ specifications, but you also need IT administrator permission to enable the feature. Microsoft announced this in a blog.

The function is not automatically activated for non-business users either: you must first log in to use Recall. This way you can’t accidentally activate Recall. This approach is expected to result in a smaller number of users than Microsoft originally hoped.

Recall was originally scheduled to launch this summer, was pushed back to October, and has now been pushed back to December.
