The OLED display panels under review are reportedly for the standard 6.1-inch iPhone 14, and mass production is scheduled to begin between July and August.
The displays are made by Chinese display manufacturer BOE, which sparked controversy earlier this year after Apple discovered that the supplier had secretly changed the width of thin-film transistors in OLED panels for the iPhone 13. After BOE executives visited Cupertino to resolve the situation with Apple, OLED panels were reaffirmed, especially as their presence in the supply chain makes Samsung Display and LG Display more competitive and at lower prices.
The fiasco with the iPhone 13 screen change seems to limit the number of screens Apple ordered from BOE to about five million. BOE hopes to get Apple’s approval by the end of June, but is said to be a few weeks behind Samsung and LG. Despite delays with manufacturers in China, the iPhone 14 series is expected to launch in the fall as usual. Source
