There are two types of people; Those who love WhatsApp sounds and those who changed Spanish laws to ban them forever. Whichever side you belong to, audio files have one significant disadvantage compared to text messages: they cannot always be played back.
WhatsApp has been testing the transcribe function for converting voice messages to text for a long time now, allowing you to combine the best of both worlds. Meta confirmed that this feature is finally available in the stable version of the app.
As is usual with such deployments, the update will be gradual. In fact, none of the phones at home can do transcription right now. Something that will be possible within the next few hours, or may even take another day.
The important thing is that WhatsApp has confirmed that this function is available globally, so just updating the app and a little patience will be enough.
The transcription is done from our own device, and according to WhatsApp, the company cannot access the content of the voice messages. Everything is done locally to maintain maximum privacy.
To transcribe a WhatsApp audio, you will need to enable the function from the settings.
- We open WhatsApp
- Let’s go to the ‘Chats’ section
- We enable audio transcriptions
- Now we will only have to hold down volume in any chat
After downloading the Spanish language pack, which takes up just under 140 MB, we can transcribe voice messages quite easily. This transcription is integrated into the voice message itself and takes up space just below it.
