Despite the resurgence of compact flagship smartphones in the tech world this year, Huaweiseems to have taken a different approach. Popular tipster Digital Chat Station reported that the Chinese tech giant currently has no plans to launch a 6.3-inch compact device. Instead, Huawei is preparing to launch two new series with larger screens and ultra-narrow bezels next year.
Huawei prefers large screens and minimal bezels
According to the source, the upcoming Mate 70 series will likely feature impressively thin bezels and a 6.7-inch flat screen with 1.5K resolution. Meanwhile, the Pura 80 series is expected to feature a 6.76/6.78-inch quad-curved display with narrow bezels and 1.5K resolution. While these screen sizes may seem larger than traditional compact devices, Huawei’s focus on minimizing bezels could result in the overall size being more compact.
Although it’s not a dedicated compact flagship, the current Huawei Pura 70 already offers a relatively compact and refined experience with its 6.6-inch screen. By optimizing the design and software, Huawei can position the standard version of the Pura 80 series as a compact flagship alternative.
Meanwhile, Huawei will launch the Mate 70 series on November 26 and open pre-orders a week earlier. More than 130,000 registrations were recorded in 10 hours and this number is expected to increase. The model range includes Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro and Mate 70 Pro+, details are available on the Huawei Vmall store.
Mate 70 and Mate 70 Pro will be available in black, white, green and purple colors, with 12 GB RAM and storage options ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB. Mate 70 Pro+ will be available in black, white, gold and blue color options with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB or 1 TB storage.

In terms of design, the Mate 70 series features a large, circular camera bump with a gold-accented ring that includes four camera holes, presumably for the main, ultrawide, telephoto and depth sensors. The design includes rounded edges, a curved back panel with a textured surface and a thicker camera bump compared to the Mate 60.
