Google being responsible for Android is very well aware of this Changing mobile phones has always been a tedious processespecially when it’s time to sign in to all your favorite apps again. Let’s not talk about whether we’re also talking about switching from one platform to another, although that’s largely out of Google’s control. However, this is not the case if we are talking about Android, and the good news in this regard is that Google has decided to limit this problem with a solution that promises to transform the user experience: the Restore Credentials functionality.
This new Credential Manager API recently announced on the official Android Developers Blog (android-developers.googleblog.com) keep users signed in to their accounts even after changing devices. Automation is the key: credentials are silently renewed in the background without the user having to enter their data manually, guaranteeing a migration that, although it may take a few minutes, will undoubtedly be much more convenient.
The Reset Credentials operation is based on a recovery key generated specifically for each user account. This key is stored locally on the device and is also synced with Google Backup if the user has cloud backup enabled. During setup of a new Android device, when you restore apps from a backup, this key is automatically transferred, allowing apps to sign in without interruption or other interactions, all in the background.
Great news for users as it makes it easier for developers to implement this new feature Its integration is very simple thanks to the existing infrastructure.e, based on access keys. In addition, Restore Credentials is supported on devices running Android 4.4 (API level 19) and later using the Jetpack Credential Manager library and Google Play Services. This ensures that a large number of applications can adopt this function without much complications, no matter how old their terminals are, which is not trivial, since in many cases we know that one of the main reasons for not changing devices is tedium rather than starting sessions in many applications and services.
With this tool, Google aims to improve user loyalty to their favorite apps, eliminating one of the biggest annoyances when migrating to a new device. But also to keep them more “tethered” to Android when it’s time to switch devicesthereby trying to avoid his possible “jump” to the iPhone. Obviously, in this case, we are not talking about an improvement that will turn off the vast majority, but it can be an important factor for many users. And I include myself in that list.
