The Israeli Ministry of Defense has begun testing a robotic combat vehicle (M-RCV). The robotic tank presented by Elbit Systems will be a demonstration of advanced technologies.
With a total of 169,500 active-duty units forced to operate in urban and rural areas, the Israel Defense Forces prefers to act according to the doctrine of minimizing its losses as much as possible. As a result, Israel shows great interest in defense and robotic systems that eliminate the human factor.
Developed by the Defense Research and Development Department of the Ministry of Defense (DDR & D), the Department of Tanks and Armored Personnel Carriers and the Israeli security industry, the robotic tank is based on a new BLR-2 robotic platform manufactured by the Israeli company BL.
The tank is equipped with a 30mm autonomous turret originally developed by the Department of Tanks and APCs for the Eitan armored personnel carrier; Elbit Iron Fist active protection system, which is a reduced version of the built-in protection system against Iron Dome bullets; fire control and flight control systems; A set of robotic autonomous operations and active and passive sensors for situational awareness.
Additionally, the robotic vehicle is equipped with a drone in a capsule that can be deployed for advanced reconnaissance missions. It can also carry a variety of heavy cargo, as well as a missile system manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Spike missiles.
According to Elbit, the robot can work offline in all weather conditions and integrate with uncontrolled battlefield systems.
