The Google saga continues with periodic losses since 2020. Sony also came under fire from Russia’s so-called “justice” after the company left the market. Channel 24 has collected the latest information.

Google and Chargrad TV

  • In July 2020, YouTube blocked the Constantinople channel, which was broadcasting propaganda and disinformation to a large audience. The official reason was the violation of “sanction laws and trade rules” – the founder and owner of the channel, Russian billionaire Konstantin Malofeev, financed the terrorists of the so-called “people’s republics”, for which he was subject to sanctions.
  • In April 2022, information appeared on the Internet that Tsargrad sued Google for one billion rubles and transferred them to the war against Ukraine.
  • The American company filed several appeals and complaints, but they were all dismissed.
  • This time is no exception: the Supreme Court of Russia upheld the rulings of three previous cases that ordered Google to restore access to the blocked YouTube channel. Judge Halyna Popova dismissed her appeals. The applicants requested that the case be referred to the Economic Disputes Judicial Board for review.

The companies’ arguments do not justify significant violations of the law that affected the outcome of the case,
said the judge.

Sony versus “unhappy Russians”

  • The Petushinsky district court of the Vladimir region satisfied the claim of the owner of the PlayStation 5 due to the closure of the PlayStation Store in Russia.
  • The plaintiff was the owner of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, which did not have a disk drive, so the only option to buy games for the console was an online store.
  • The owner of the gadget said that due to the blocking of access to the online video game store, he lost the ability to use the device for its intended purpose and demanded to replace the product with a working one. Presumably, the court’s requirements can be met by replacing the console with a more expensive version of the PlayStation 5 with a driver. However, it will not work in the PlayStation Store either.
  • The problems faced by the plaintiff were determined by the court as a general defect of the equipment that needed to be replaced.
  • The company set aside a week for this, otherwise it will have to pay a fine of 500 rubles per delay.

Since it is probably impossible to implement the court decision today, the owner of the console will demand 15,000 rubles per month. And after that, those who want to make easy money will come.
