Windows 11 24H2 continues to claim victims. Printers and scanners that use the eSCL protocol do not work in the latest version of Windows 11.
Is your printer or scanner acting strangely since you installed Windows 11 24H2? Microsoft reports a problem with the eSCL protocol (eScanner communication language) Fixed in Windows 11. This protocol is used to connect PCs and devices such as printers, scanners, but also routers via Ethernet, WLAN or USB without the need for a driver.
Users report that their PC can no longer connect to the printer since installing the update. The error affects different brands and is therefore within Windows itself. “This issue is caused by the device not switching from eSCL mode to USB mode, which allows coordination of the scanner drivers,” says Microsoft’s statement.
There were first reports of the printer problem at the end of October, but a solution has not yet been found. Microsoft has temporarily paused the update for devices connected to remote devices that use the eSCL protocol and does not recommend manually installing the update in this case. Some users have now been without a functioning printer for a month.
Windows 11 24H2 has already achieved a lot. From blue screens to black screens to 9GB of undeletable files, the update rollout was chaotic to say the least. Microsoft is solving the problems step by step and Windows 11 24H2 is becoming available on additional devices. Last week, Microsoft made the last optional update of the year available.
