Raspberry Pi Pico 2 is now available. The focus is primarily on applications for the Internet of Things.
The new Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W is now available, XDA developers report. The seven-dollar board offers wireless connectivity and is primarily aimed at Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W builds on the Pico 2, which was introduced earlier this year. This new model includes the RP2350 microcontroller, which was released in early August. This microcontroller features faster cores, more memory and improved power efficiency. Additionally, it supports Arm’s TrustZone technology for a stronger security model.
What sets the Pico 2 W apart is the addition of a CYW43439 wireless modem from Infineon. This modem supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi (802.11n) and Bluetooth 5.2, which is essential for IoT projects that require cloud connectivity. C and MicroPython libraries are available for programmers, and official MicroPython support is expected soon.
The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W retains the breadboard-friendly design of its predecessor and can therefore be easily integrated into prototypes. For large-scale implementations, Raspberry Pi offers a separate RM2 radio module, which is already used on the Pico Plus 2 W from Pimoroni, for example.
Priced at seven dollars, the Pico 2 W is aimed at both hobbyists and professional developers looking for an affordable solution with wireless capabilities for IoT applications.
