The company “/dev/agents” wants to develop a cloud-based operating system for AI agents that will lay the foundation for autonomous digital assistants.

The founders of /dev/agents, including several former Android top profiles, see AI agents as an important step in the evolution of AI technology. These agents must be able to perform tasks and make decisions independently without requiring much human intervention. Large companies such as Microsoft, Salesforce, Google and OpenAI are already developing such tools.

However, building good AI agents is currently too complex, according to co-founder and CEO David Singleton, who previously served as VP of Engineering at Android. He argues that an “Android-like moment for AI” is needed to make the technology widely available.

With their operating system, the founders want to create a development platform that makes it easier to build useful AI agents.

Focus on collaboration and privacy

The company /dev/agents is focused on a new type of user experience and aims to develop AI agents that can securely collaborate with users across devices. Singleton emphasizes that a revised data protection model and new user interfaces are essential for the success of such technologies.

The team behind /dev/agents consists of prominent names from the tech world. In addition to Singleton and Barra, the project also includes Ficus Kirkpatrick, a former Android engineer and vice president of AR and VR at Meta, and Nicholas Jitkoff, a ChromeOS designer. Barra, who previously held leadership positions at Xiaomi and Oculus VR, brings his experience in product development.

With this diverse expertise, /dev/agents wants to set a new standard in the world of AI agents. The operating system must lay the foundation for the next generation of digital assistants, with an emphasis on usability and reliability.
