NASA released a video with a fireplace for the holidays

There’s a new contender for your festive fireplace video. Where did this come from NASA and features rocket engines and boosters to brighten your days with the Space Launch System holiday spirit.

Say goodbye to the crackling logs from last Christmas’ fireplace videos. We will miss waiting for the fire to turn to embers and the next log to be placed in the fireplace. Instead, we can happily watch as four RS-25 engines and a pair of Space Launch System boosters light our video fires.

Enjoy the warm glow of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen as they burn to produce a soothing, shimmering glow. Be excited by the intense hot gases released from the solid accelerators when the aluminum powder and ammonium perchlorate oxidizer bonded together with polybutadiene acrylonitrile are ignited.

NASA created this 8-hour looping video of the Artemis 1 launch to the Moon in November 2022. The celebration video is a slightly cleaned-up version of the actual launch. The actual launch was a thunderous, roaring spectacle with a swirl of light and a chest-shattering sound. Below you can see the actual launch.

Traditionalists may scoff at this updated holiday fireplace video, and tradition is a good thing. But progress is also a good thing; So why not take some time to think about humanity’s limits and our return to the moon while you gorge on turkey and eggnog?
