One of the main problems of OLED panels, and the most important problem for end users, is burn-in. Manufacturers of the relevant monitors have recently started offering an extended warranty in this case, but this usually lasts another year or two. The company Applied Materials presented the MAX OLED platform, which allows you to increase the service life of such panels by up to five times!
MAX OLED is an OLED panel pixel architecture and also display manufacturing technology. According to the press release, MAX OLED brings the excellent OLED displays used in high-end smartphones to tablets, PCs and eventually TVs.
This solution primarily facilitates the scaling of OLED panel production from 6th Generation glass substrates to 8th Generation substrates and beyond. Additionally, as part of this development, OLED materials are deposited with a new method that increases brightness and resolution, reduces power consumption and extends lifespan.
Applied’s proprietary solution uses selective deposition to deliver superior pixel placement accuracy by more than doubling the amount of OLED material per unit area compared to previous technologies. The technology can increase the brightness of the OLED screen by 3 times and the resolution by 2.5 times, that is, approximately 2000 pixels per square inch. The solution can also reduce the power consumption of the display by more than 30 percent and increase the lifespan of the display by up to 5 times.
The important thing is that this is not a new technology without clear market prospects, as has already been adopted by Samsung.
