A recent demonstration of a humanoid robot Tesla is optimisticThe actor catching tennis balls with the updated hand brush in the video was primarily impressed by the smoothness and naturalness of the limb movements, but company representatives did not hide that the robot was once again controlled by a person. Instead, they explained what had changed in the arrangement of the new robot hands.

As Electrek explains, the head of the Optimus project, Milan Kovac, talked about the modifications that the robot received as a gift on the so-called “Black Friday”. According to a Tesla representative, the new manipulators will be completed by the end of this year, especially in terms of the new hands’ ability to tactilely recognize different types of surfaces. In this regard, the new robot hands are significantly superior to the previous version, and a particular challenge during the creation was to maintain sufficient precision, taking into account the appearance of the outer covering, which resembles human skin and flesh. According to Kovach, the new hand received a protective coating on the fingers and palm, which is quite soft and durable to the touch, but at the same time allows tactile recognition of various surfaces with acceptable accuracy.

The kinematics of the fingers were significantly improved with the emergence of some human tendons. As mentioned earlier, the Optimus robot’s brush has 22 degrees of freedom, only slightly lower than the human’s, with three more degrees of freedom added to the wrist and forearm. (Elon Musk) was clearly mentioned.
