Google’s strategy for its products is intriguing, to say the least. After all, the Mountain View company is known for making some turns that may end in its demise for some: Stadia ending in 2023 (but its graveyard is full) or the name changes we’ve seen recently are an example. Before Bard, it was Artificial Intelligence, now it is Gemini. Well then Changes are coming to Google Photos and it’s time to say goodbye to some functions.
More specifically, it’s time to say goodbye to ‘Memories’, one of the functions that can be found in the bottom bar of the app and how useful it is to remember special moments with people or just a day. You did something special The good news is that only the name changes because Even though ‘Memories’ are gone, the show goes on.
Goodbye to memories, hello to moments
As 9to5Google expected, Google is transforming its photos app with a new design. It left the ‘Memories’ tab behind and got a new name: ‘Moments’This will still be available in the app but will be more private.
Google introduced this tab in August 2023, a type of notebook that automatically organizes certain images around a specific event or moment. After more than a year of operation, renaming and change of location is carried out, because will now be in the ‘Collections’ tabwith albums, documents, places, people and pets. Below these lines you can see the new distribution of tabs in the bottom bar when the update is executed:

When we enter these renewed ‘Moments’ we will find the following message on our first visit: ‘Your photos arranged according to your best moments. Add details, search and share with others‘.
In conclusion, bottom bar will be much cleanerwith just three options: ‘Photos’, ‘Collections’ and ‘Search’ (or ask, as it will use Gemini technology, following the trend that Google has already applied to Google Maps).
Currently this innovation has begun to be implemented in iOS (version 7.9), so Android version should come sooner or later.
