Samsung turns off DeX for Windows in One UI 7

SAMSUNG keeps secret One user interface 7The next Android based shell. While leaks point to new icons and UI changes, an update on Samsung’s UK site reveals a more significant change: the DeX app for Windows has been discontinued.


For the uninitiated DeX It allows Galaxy phone owners to mirror their device’s screen onto a PC window. The feature, aptly named “Desktop eXperience”, enables seamless file transfer between two devices. It’s a useful tool, especially for those who want to do more with their phones than with their desktop computers.

However, a footnote on the Samsung DeX page gives clues about the future of this feature:

  • DeX for PC on Windows OS will discontinue support starting with One UI version 7. We encourage our customers to connect their mobile phone to a PC using the Windows Connect feature.

This is not surprising

While this news isn’t entirely surprising, it is a change for DeX users on Windows. Samsung recommends switching to its built-in Windows Link feature, which offers similar functionality. This is a logical step, considering Link to Windows is a native part of the Windows ecosystem and works with more than just Samsung devices.

It is worth noting that only the Windows program is stopped. DeX itself remains available for direct connection to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, allowing users to enjoy a desktop-like setup. However, for those accustomed to the Windows program, this change may disrupt their normal workflow.
