As we already told you a few days ago, The controversial Recall feature has already started rolling out to Windows usersalthough for now only to those who are part of the Windows Insiders program and who, of course, have a PC compatible with what was supposed to be the big news of Microsoft’s operating system. And what is the compatibility? Well, at the moment we have a “motorized” device with a Qualcomm SoC, the only one currently compatible with this feature, although Redmond has already actively and passively confirmed that compatibility with chips will arrive sooner rather than later and Intel, which also integrate the NPU, which is a basic condition for obtaining the nickname Copilot+ PC.

What Microsoft didn’t expect, or at least didn’t hint at, is that Recall would debut with a flaw as odd as it is troubling. Designed to help users remember what they did on their computer in the past, this feature seems to have overstepped its own shadow, causing some installations to crash when trying to use it. Result? A growing number of Insiders are reporting that they can’t even boot after activating Recall. A situation that resembles a bad technological dream rather than the promised “great revolution” when introduced together with Copilot+ PC.

For those concerned, Microsoft offered a solution that, frankly, won’t go down in history as an innovation milestone. As they explain, just restart your PC. Yes, exactly as you read it: the mythical “have you tried turning it off and on again? seems to be the key to overcoming the problem… for now. It’s inevitable to joke that we may be facing the one trick that truly unites us all, Insiders or not. Of course, the company assures that it is working on a more permanent solution for the coming days, although we have already seen in previous attempts at modification that the promises around Recall did not always stand out in their immediacy or effectiveness.

This situation leaves an important question in the air: Was Recall really ready for release? As we told you in May, when the feature was the subject of criticism almost from the moment it was announced, it generated considerable controversy from the start. Microsoft tried to fix its design over time, but the road was full of twists and turns. In fact, the arrival of the Recall comes after months of uncertainty, as we pointed out in August, and moves that seemed to suggest that even the company itself had lost faith in its idea, which was reflected in June.

For now, the Recall remains exclusive to Qualcomm SoCs, while Microsoft continues to ensure that it reaches more systems soon. However, users could already see how other suggestions like Google They manage to offer similar solutions without so many surprises. Perhaps most worryingly, this string of failures reinforces the impression that Microsoft’s recall strategy is based more on promise than product, and that, as we already know, is a slippery slope.

Sometimes I think technology advances faster than our ability to process its changes. With Recall, the future seems to be coming, but still with the handbrake on. And while we await the promised improvements, At least we can have a little laugh that the classic “PC restart” still fully applies in the age of AI.
