Dozens of people died according to some media reports, more than a hundred, The clashes broke out during a football match in Nzerekore, Guinea’s second largest city, local media reported.
Apparently Riots broke out after the arbitration decision which was vehemently protested by those present at the game who invaded the playing field.
According to the local press, police fired tear gas after fans of the visiting Labe team, angry at the referee’s decisions during the match, threw stones at the field and jumped out onto the grass.
Prime Minister Mamadou Ouri Ba indicated that the stampede at the event led to several casualties on Sunday, although he did not specify the figure and asked the population to remain calm.
